Australian stakes double for Frankel
Frankel had two stakes winners at Canberra yesterday (8th March) with Green Fly, the winner of the Listed National Sprint over 7 furlongs, and later on the card Touristic claimed the Listed Canberra Cup over 10 furlongs.
Taken from ANZ Bloodstock News, 9th March 2026:
Green Fly became the latest stakes winner for Frankel when taking out Sunday’s Listed National Sprint over seven furlongs at Canberra. Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, the seven-year-old gelding came from last rounding the home bend to produce a withering late run under Tim Clark and deny Ducasse by 0.3 lengths at the line. There was a further 1.2 lengths back to Magnatear in third place.
Racing in the colours of OTI Racing, the French import is the second foal out of the Listed-winning Pivotal mare Via Pisa, herself a half-sister to Group 1 winner and former Arrowfield shuttler Admire Mars and Listed winner Via Firenze (Dansili).
Later on the same card, the Peter Snowden-trained Frankel gelding Touristic landed his second blacktype success when toughing it out in the Listed Canberra Cup over 10 furlongs. Ridden by Andrew Adkins, the seven-year-old gelding denied Geemes by 0.3 lengths with a further 1.2 lengths back to Travolta in third place. Sunday’s win added to Touristic’s victory in last May’s Listed Lord Mayors Cup at Rosehill. Bred in France by the Wertheimers, Touristic is the first foal out of stakes winner and Classic-placed Heuristique.
