Farewell to Zamindar

Juddmonte are sad to announce the passing of Zamindar (Gone West/Zaizafon) at the age of 32.

As a brother to the Champion Zafonic, Zamindar had to live up to high expectations on the racecourse. He was successful in the Prix de Cabourg Gr.3 as well as being placed in the Prix Morny Gr.1 and Prix de Salamandre Gr.1.

Retired to Banstead Manor Stud in 1998, Zamindar left his mark on the sport as both a successful sire and broodmare sire. He produced five Gr.1-winning fillies, including the unbeaten Champion Zarkava and Poule d’Essai des Pouliches heroine Zenda, and his influence is perpetuated through their stallion sons, with Zarkava producing Zarak, Zenda producing leading European sire Kingman, and his Listed-winning daughter Cinnamon Bay producing New Bay.

Simon Mockridge, General Manager (UK) says: “It was with great sadness after 28 years at Banstead Manor Stud that we said farewell to Zamindar. We remember him for his power and size but above all else it was his amazing character that meant so much to those that worked closely with him. He will be greatly missed by all at Juddmonte”.
