Take A Breath a new Graded winner for Bated Breath

Bated Breath filly Take a Breath earned her first U.S. win with a dramatic victory over Resolve in the Grade 3 Santa Ana Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday (15th March).

Taken from the Thoroughbred Daily News, 16th March 2025:

The 6-1 shot settled mid-pack as longshot A Thousand Miles took the field through fractions of :24.30, :49.03, and 1:1:14.42. She rolled up four wide entering the far turn, with favoured Lady Astor and Resolve closing in her wake. Take a Breath took the lead in deep stretch and had just enough left to hold off the late rush of Resolve. Lady Astor chased them home in third.

Take a Breath concluded her time with trainer William Haggas with back-to-back wins last summer in England. Purchased privately, she resurfaced with trainer Mark Glatt to finish fourth in the Gr.1 Del Mar Oaks (16th August). Sixth in the Gr.3 Autumn Miss Stakes (26th October), she concluded her 2025 campaign with a lat-closing fourth-place effort over the Santa Ana's course and one and a quarter-mile distance in the Gr.1 American Oaks on 28th December. She had not been out since opening 2026 with a narrowly beaten third-place effort in a nine-furlong optional claimer on 24th January.

Take a Breath became the 19th Group/Graded winner for Juddmonte stallion Bated Breath, whose daughter Viadera won the 2020 Gr.1 Matriarch Stakes. Her full-sister Simply Breathless won the 2019 Gr.3 Wilshire Stakes over the Santa Anita course, while full-sister Breath Away won the Gr.2 Dance Smartly Stakes in October at Woodbine before selling for $625,000 at last year's Keeneland November sale.
