Unbeaten son of Frankel Mazzala maintains unbeaten record
The unbeaten Mazzala (Frankel) maintained his flawless record when landing yesterday’s 2400m Listed Prix Frederic de Lagrange at Vichy, recording a first stakes success in the process.
Taken from the European Bloodstock News, 21st July 2026:
Trained by Yann Barberot and ridden by Maxime Guyon, the three-year-old gelding opted to set the fractions from the front. Carcagny emerged to challenge approaching the 400 metre marker, but Mazzala responded willingly when asked for more inside the final 100 metres. Although the fast-finishing Zulu Chant closed rapidly in the closing stages, the son of Frankel found enough to prevail by a short head, with Carcagny a further length adrift in third.
The victory maintained Mazzala’s unbeaten record and suggested there is further improvement to come. Having shown promise in winning each of his first two starts, he passed his first stakes test with credit and now looks ready for a further step into Pattern company over middle distances. Owned and bred by Wertheimer & Frere, he is the third foal and third winner out of the placed Speightstown mare Celtic, herself a half-sister to the Gr.3 Prix Chloe winner Blush (Kingman) and the Listed Prix de l’Avre winner and Gr.3 Prix du Lys third Martel (Frankel), and they are out of the dual US Gr.1 winner Lady Of Shamrock.
