Green Desert encapsulated much of what made his sire Danzig so successful. Precocious, fast and with the versatility to carry his speed from 5f to a mile, he owned many of the characteristics that helped propel the line to such global influence. Green Desert himself played a major role in that success, and in turn his own sire line has evolved into various different guises over the past two decades, spanning such important branches as Cape Cross, sire of Sea The Stars, Invincible Spirit and Juddmonte’s own Oasis Dream.

Speed remains very much the essence when it comes to Invincible Spirit, a horse who initially made his name by upgrading mares. A leading European sire at his peak, his legacy lives on through a collection of proven sire sons, many of them speed influences typical of the line. At the top of that list stands Kingman, a son of the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches heroine Zenda and therefore a member of Juddmonte’s famous Bahamian line also responsible for the leading sires Oasis Dream and New Bay.

Kingman the racehorse possessed a brilliance that saw him tower over the miling division in 2014, when he swept the Irish 2000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes and Prix Jacques le Marois. He possessed an extraordinary ability to quicken and while each victory was achieved with a degree of dominance - regardless of ground conditions - for many it is the Sussex that sticks in the mind, in which he clocked a time of 10.22 between the two and one furlong pole to run down Toronado.

Kingman’s brilliance was underpinned by a high cruising speed and turn of foot, both attributes invariably inherited by his top performers. There was no better early example than Calyx, his very first winner who was electrifying the day he won the Coventry Stakes.

As it stands at the time of writing, Kingman has supplied over 100 stakes winners headed by 14 at the top level. Palace Pier was a brilliant multiple Group 1-winning miler while Persian King captured the Poule d’Essai des Poulains en route to a versatile career that featured a win in the Prix d’Ispahan and placing in the Arc. Commissioning and King Colorado were Group 1-winning two-year-olds, Elmalka won a 1000 Guineas, Sparkling Plenty won a Prix de Diane and Schnell Meister excelled as a miler in Japan. As is typical of the line, each possessed speed and an ability to quicken - and in that, Field Of Gold, the best of 14 stakes winners from his seventh crop, was certainly no different.

Various sons are now doing their bit to add weight to Kingman’s burgeoning reputation as a sire of sires. The list includes Group 1 sires Calyx and Persian King, Palace Pier, the sire of four stakes winners out of his first crop of European runners in 2025, and Chachnak, a surprise package of the European stallion scene whose representatives include the Prix de Diane and Prix Vermeille runner-up Pink Panthera - all of which bodes well for the prospects of Field Of Gold at stud.
